Since we are discussing curves this week and curves are not what Texas roads are known for I thought I would use some footage from my ride on the Tail of the Dragon.
Our friends in the EU learn a cornering road strategy that is not quite as common here in the US.
Limit Point – The furthest point to which you have an uninterrupted view of the road surface.
3 rules for using Limit Points on the road
- If the limit point is moving closer to you, you should decelerate or brake.
- If the limit point is maintaining the same distance, you should maintain speed.
- If the limit point is moving further away from you, you can accelerate.
Recap from the video
- The limit point is the distance you can see clearly up the road.
- You should ride at a speed at which you can get the motorcycle to a stop before the limit point.
- If the limit point is moving closer to you, you should decelerate or brake.
- If the limit point is maintaining the same distance, you can maintain speed.
- If the limit point is moving further away from you, you can accelerate.
- Use other road clues to tell you about the road and what is coming up.
- And where we position the motorcycle within our lane can have a huge impact on how well we can see through the corner and extend out our limit point.
