Why Wrist Position Matters when Stopping a Motorcycle
Rolling on the throttle in an emergency stop is a common new rider issue. It happens frequently during a new rider class and there is usually one fix related to wrist position that solves the issue.
What can make it even more dangerous for new riders though is what sometimes happens as a result of rolling on the throttle at the quick stop…and that is panic.
New riders perform the stop OK but the roll on the throttle causes the engine to rev up to really high levels as a result riders panic and do the worst thing you can do in that situation and that is to release the clutch.
So now you have an engine revving to redline, a panicked rider and they start to release the clutch. So you can guess from there what might happen and very few of the results are optimum.
